this tuesday is the runoff election between jim martin and saxby chambliss for a U.S. senatorial seat. i didn’t submit an absentee ballot, so it looks like i might have to make a trip on tuesday to douglas just to vote. i kind of hate that, though. i’ve been to douglas nearly 3 times within the past week and a half. that’s plenty of douglas time, gah. i might just be a bad person and not vote. i’d really like to see martin win, but somehow, i think saxby’s going to maintain his long-running position, anyhow. and besides, i should probably spend tuesday in the library working on this annotated bibliography, anyhow. and there you have it, ladies and gents, i just came up with 3 excuses as to why i probably won’t vote in the runoff election.

…and yes, we DID!
i’m incredibly excited for the change that lies ahead for america. it’s going to take a long time to fix the damage that the current administration has done, but i know that under the great leadership of barack obama, this nation CAN be repaired.
mccain gave a great speech, but obama just gave his; it was amazing. i just sat here and cried tears of joy. finally, FINALLY our nation is on the path to progress once again. i am so incredibly stoked for what this new administration will have to offer. thank you, america, for making your voice heard!

i wish obama would hurry up and announce who his running mate will be. it’s about time we know. i’m just ready to find out so i can start my campaigning, complete with banners, bumper stickers, and personalized pens supporting my candidate.
it’s crazy how it’s already been 4 years since the last presidential election. i’m pretty anxious to see how november’s elections will turn out. it’s hard to remember a time before bush…it’s been a long time, that’s for sure.

my homeboy barack obama! hell yes.
not only am i super excited that obama has secured the position of the democratic nominee in the race for the upcoming presidency, but i am even more excited that the end of bush’s eight year, tumultuous and disastrous reign over the united states is finally, finally, FINALLY in sight. i don’t think anyone knows just how happy that really makes me.
it seems like just yesterday i posted this entry, devastated over kerry’s defeat. now, i’m feeling rather confident that obama will be preferred over mccain come fall, due to his dedication to changel…and, of course, his youth and charisma will certainly help out, as well. lol. just cross your fingers those damned republicans don’t botch the voting system again, okay? they’re good at that sort of thing.
come on, america! this is OUR time for change. it’s time to fix the country that dubya destroyed. let’s fix our health care system, our economy, our energy policy, and our education system. most importantly, let’s make a comeback from this quagmire that bush and all his neoconservative cronies have dragged us deeper into ever since march 19, 2003. it’s a fresh start, it’s a brand new election and a brand new day. GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME!

special thanks to mark for showing me this. i’m gonna hotlink it since i’m guessing the person who hosts this image made it. hopefully, though, it (hotlinking) won’t bite me in the ass with a goatse or something:

so huckabee got the republican vote and obama won the democratic vote. i’m rather excited about obama’s win because i really do like the guy and his ideas, but HUCKABEE? come ON, people. we’ve already had 8 years of an idiot in the white house; do you seriously want another 4? i truly believe that given the power, mike huckabee would proudly do the best he could to strip many minorities of their rights. the guy is an atrocious imbecile. i seriously hope this caucus does not predict the outcome of the republican nominee on super tuesday.

justin always finds the coolest stuff online. tonight, he told me about the wikipedia scanner that tells the location of all sorts of edits within wikipedia. check out the organizations listed and the types of things they’ve edited. it took me a minute to figure out how to do this, so i’ll break it down for you in basic steps:
1. go to the main page. 2. i selected from the organizations on the right of the page just for a general search. but you can type in crap if you feel like it. anyways. 3. on the following page, find an edit that interests you and click on the corresponding number under the “diff” column. it’ll show you in a separate frame the edit that took place in before and after shots. cool, yes? yes.
thanks again for showing me this, justin.
check out a screen shot of one of walmart’s edits under the cut.

because when you bring children into the picture, you’re playing with fire, and ain’t nobody gonna have that. of course, we know fox news won’t discuss how bush vetoed a bill that would expand kids’ health care, but he’ll be in trouble by anyone else who watches the nightly news on any other network. okay, bush, so this bill is costly…but isn’t the war in iraq? i mean, there you’re hitting the trillion mark, but when it comes time to take care of people in your own country, you bitch because of something that would cost $35 billion and be funded by the cigarette sales tax? i know a lot of people would be pissed that the tax on cigarettes is going up, and god knows big tobacco won’t have it, but i think it’s actually rather good. tax the cancer sticks, make kids healthy. and again, you’re using children here as a tool, so any smoker won’t want to bitch about a hike in taxes when that money benefits kids’ welfare. but i digress. i should really be reading my shit for model senate. ughhh.

i posted the following on my blog 6 years ago today:
[9-12-01>>12:41am]
i can’t quit thinking about the crap that happened today [yesterday]. i didn’t really even think much about what this could turn into until now. i wanna drop an atomic bomb on afghanistan’s asses. but then again, i don’t wanna fight more, because it’ll end up in world war 3 and that’s just NOT cool. i seriously am worried about this. i know y’all might think i’m stupid or something, but. god, it’s just so awful. ugh.
*sigh*
and to think that one day, 9/11 will just be an event that occurred in history books, just as people my age see pearl harbor now. the events of that day are so fresh in my mind, i feel like it happened yesterday.
“Stand up, America
Hear the bell now as it tolls
Wake up, America
It’s Tuesday Morning
C’mon. Let’s roll.”

so first there was live aid…then live 8…and now there’s live earth. i think it’s good that so many artists and celebrities are using their notoriety to raise awareness for global warming and the destruction we are causing our earth. i know i’m not the first person to think of this, but i have a few issues with this all:
1. the use of private jets and fuel to get to the concerts. supposedly, the presenters and the performers are supposed to be purchasing carbon credits…but really, now, that’s an awful lot of carbon to transport that many people around the globe for this one event. and i wonder exactly how many of these attendees are traveling long distances to see these shows? i’m sure that a majority of them do not have hybrid cars, either, because let’s be realistic– hybrids are expensive.
2. the energy used by the concerts. organizers of live earth say that the concerts are using sustainable lighting. well, okay. but what about the energy used by the instruments (amps, etc.)…the screens…the sound systems…?
3. the waste produced by the concert attendees. there’s no getting around this one. of course, there are many alternatives to an unfathomable sea of styrofoam and plastic cups; i’m sure the concert will be providing any beverages in cups made from recycled paper, and there will be recycling bins and all that jazz. even if the organizers do their damndest to prevent waste, it is still inevitable. think of all the plastic bottles and bags that will accumulate around the world during these concerts. we are one world dependent on plastic. this is all inevitable.
4. the energy used by the viewers. let’s face it, most of the world is not going to be able to actually attend these concerts, so they’re going to watch them from the comfort of their own homes. and there’s more energy being used right there. lights on, TVs on, tivos recording, computers streaming…you name it, there it is.
i don’t have a problem with live earth. personally, i do see that there are problems with the environment, and i do believe that we are harming it to no end and our dependency on oil needs to be greatly reduced; however, i will honestly admit that i personally do NOT do my part to prevent all this destruction. i don’t recycle, i drive unnecessarily, i leave the lights on, i don’t use eco-friendly products…but i don’t litter. i digress.
my real issue with live earth is that it seems very hypocritical to its own cause. perhaps i’m wrong on many of these issues i’ve addressed, but i don’t see how several of them can be avoided. thoughts?

i saw this on perez’s blog. the military sought to build a “gay bomb.” no, it’s not a joke. read the story here.
um…yeah.

for those of you unaware, he was an televangelist who avidly dabbled in politics. while some ministers promote the good of christianity, he was a hate-promoting, radically right-winged old man. it’s really too bad he couldn’t have stayed away from the government. i’m sorry his family has to suffer, but he really sucked as an individual.
i wrote the above earlier today, and i didn’t know how to say what i wanted to say tactfully yet sarcastically, so i ditched the article, although wordpress saved it as a draft. anyway, i think perez hilton summed it up best:
Rev. Jerry Falwell, a big fan of the gays, passed away on Tuesday.
i couldn’t stop laughing. to make matters worse, the title of the post is “lights out.”
oh, god, please forgive me for being amused. i am totally going to hell. it really will be sad when billy graham dies, though. he doesn’t make me mad like jerry falwell did and pat roberson does. but anyways, yeah. so jerry falwell’s dead. save the hate comments for your mama, please.

thomas and i found this a few days ago. i absolutely LOVE it. it’s the funniest, most witty thing i’ve seen about those fucking ribbons since antimagnet.com. (
) anyways, “stick magnetic ribbons on your S.U.V.” is by the asylum street spankers, whose website you can check out here. enjoy the show!

when i first read about iran’s announcement of its ability to mass-produce uranium, i thought maybe they’re just announcing this to piss bush and blair off. i mean, admit it, if you were the leader of some bush-hated country, wouldn’t you say shit like that just to make him mad? but yeah, i read the article, and i don’t really know how to describe my reaction. i mean, i can worry about it a little bit, but we already have those very nukes they’re seeking to produce, so what’s the big deal? we automatically assume they’re just going to have a hey-day with whatever nuclear weapons they develop, and they’re going to just fire them all over the place for fun. not that a part of me doesn’t think that they will…but i don’t know. i’m on the fence, i guess. at least we know for a fact they’re trying to produce them, and at least we’re letting the UN handle it. that’s the mistake we made with iraq, and look how that’s going. jeez.
