my livejournal. yes, my old, trusty, crusty livejournal i created in 2003 and abandoned last year for my own domain. my livejournal still has a PR of 2 or 3 and gets very little traffic, if any at all, while this blog is checked mainly by my friends a few times a day. i got 300 hits one day last week when i posted the link to that green day cover, and i got about 150 hits when the stage moms found that post from july. any other day, i’m doing well to get 16 hits. this blog has no PR thanks to google’s anti-PPP ways, so no opportunities on PPP really exist anymore for me to take. i don’t blog much until something halfassedly interesting happens.

i wonder how many people will actually click the link to check out my livejournal, only to find it sadly abandoned for a different livejournal and linked to this blog. i wish payperpost would just delete it off my account.

if you got here from payperpost, then hello, and congratulations on finding me. i’m sorry things aren’t so interesting lately. if i get into grad school (which i don’t expect to find out for at least another 3 weeks), i promise you’ll find more interesting posts regarding my future.

when i was 9, i started taking piano lessons from our church’s organist. i kept up my lessons until i was 14, when i quit in order to further pursue the flute i was learning to play in band. piano lessons were very beneficial to my musical “career” in high school; not only could i play flute and piccolo, but because of my knowledge of the keyboard, i could play the mallets, as well, so i was always volunteered to play mallets during concert season when no one else wanted to. fortunately for them, i didn’t mind. =) i think it’s very important to encourage children to pursue some sort of activity in the fine arts, and Piano lessons & piano chords are a great way to start. however, many folks don’t know someone who could teach their child how to play or they simply cannot afford lessons, which is certainly understandable. playpiano.com is the solution. these folks offer free piano lesson e-mail newsletters on basic techniques such as chords and chord progression every 5 days. they also sell DVDs that teach a person how to play piano, but there is no obligation to buy them. i think i might sign myself up for this newsletter just so i can refresh my memory on everything i learned so long ago. what a great freebie find!

jade has a deeper fondness for johnny depp than i, but he is still one of the most tremendous actors of our time, in my opinion. the first movie i ever saw with him in it was edward scissorhands when it came out in the early 90’s. i absolutely loved him; edward felt almost real to me, and i completely sympathized with him (but i’m sure everyone did). then came what’s eating gilbert grape. admittedly, i only watched the movie for my adolescent love of leonardo dicaprio, but watching it again later in life, i am able to better appreciate johnny’s acting. gilbert grape was a conflicted character, and now that i am older, i am not only able to understand the character better but the acting as well. i’ve since seen several movies starring the always fabulous mr. depp, but i hold conflict as to whether or not his finest performance was as jack sparrow (pirates of the caribbean) or willy wonka (charlie and the chocolate factory). johnny’s jack has become enormously popular worldwide, and i can certainly see why. jack sparrow is the perfect antihero as a drunken pirate, and i couldn’t see anybody besides johnny taking on the role. on the other hand, some critics didn’t like johnny as willy wonka and thought he was too creepy for the role. i, however, thought he did a marvelous job, and i loved his weird rendition of the famed chocolatier. between the two, though, i would probably have to give jack sparrow my vote for “favorite character.” he’s so complex and original. johnny depp was absolutely brilliant in making the character so unique.

i love how johnny depp can take on any role, no matter how tragic or conflicted or funny, and make it entirely his own; THAT, my friends, is what makes johnny depp so fabulous. tomorrow, as i’m sure you all know, sweeney todd opens in theaters. thomas and i are going to see it on saturday, and i’m SO excited! i’ve taken time to visit the official Sweeney Todd movie site over the past few weeks to get my fill of trailers and clips, and i’m 100% ready to see the whole thing in action! not only will johnny show off his vocal skills, but he’ll present his audience with a totally brand new character: sweeney todd, the conflicted and vengeful barber who kills his clients. i don’t doubt that johnny could even surpass the excellence that was his performance as jack sparrow. i am SO ready to see this film! i guess that while i wait, i’ll just visit Sweeney Todd on MySpace for the time being!

have you ever had a mouth ulcer? they’re absolutely horrible. i’ve gotten several within the past few years, and the only thing that will cure them are silver nitrate sticks, which burn to no end and taste incredibly bitter. the worst part of it all is living with the ulcer before you treat it (well, of course). i always get them at the edge of my gum and jaw in the front…that little crevice there, y’know. they’re terrible. they hurt to no end and even simple eating and drinking become nightmare tasks. and when it comes to brushing your teeth…well, we won’t even go there on how painful that is!

you all know how much i love free samples. well, i received a sample of Biotene sensitive toothpaste in the mail not too long ago and decided to try it out. this stuff’s pretty awesome. it cleans your teeth just as well as ordinary toothpaste, but it makes a gentle foam that won’t irritate gums…something that would definitely come in handy the next time i get one of those awful mouth ulcers. not only do i develop those from time to time, but i also experience days when my teeth are more sensitive than normal, so biotene’s sensitive toothpaste sure will be good to have the next time that happens; there’s nothing worse than the sharp pain felt in your molars when you’re eating something cold! ouch! i also like how they offer protection against dry mouth. have you ever brushed your teeth and your mouth felt disgustingly dry? it happens to me every now and then, and it’s no fun. well, biotene doesn’t do this. it seeks to prevent it! finally, what’s especially great about biotene is how it doesn’t just cover up the problem of dental sensitivity; instead, it resolves it.

this was probably one of the most useful free samples i’ve received yet! way to go, biotene, you’ve found yourself another customer!

thomas and i have been discussing off and on for the past few weeks about taking a trip somewhere sometime soon. we want to go somewhere we don’t usually go, perhaps somewhere neither of us has been in awhile. my aunt beth and bill went to st. augustine not too long ago and had a great trip. that really got me thinking…maybe we should go to st. augustine? i haven’t been since i was 14 and i loved it then. it’s america’s oldest city, after all. i read that they have a First Friday Weekend Art Walk that occurs on the first friday of each weekend. valdosta does something similar to this downtown on the first friday of the month…i’ve never been to it, but i’ve always wanted to go. i bet st. augustine’s is cooler, though. not only do you get to experience the beauty that is st. augustine itself, but you get to view lots of different pieces from local artists. better yet, it’s absolutely free. free entertainment and culture, right in the center of st. augustine. sounds like a pretty good idea to me. i doubt thomas would care too much for it, but it definitely sounds interesting to me! i’ve always liked going to local art shows and seeing the things peoples’ creativities can produce. well, if thomas didn’t want to stick around long for the St. Augustine Artwalk, we could always take a complimentary trolley ride to another attraction in the city. that’s awfully nice of these folks to offer people not only a free art show but free rides, as well. the art walk sounds like a great event…maybe we should see into hitting up st. augustine sometime, thomas, what do you think? ;P

christmas is right around the corner, and i’ve already started looking for gifts for people. i don’t like to give standard, boring gifts like christmas mug sets. i like to make my gifts a little more personal and unique, so i visit sites like vat19.com for a fix. this place offers lots of cool gifts like a Mouserug Mousepad and a USB missile launcher, which thomas mentioned last year that someone had received. sounds fun!

i love to get presents, and the other day in the mail, i received a package from these folks with 3 goodies inside!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

they sent me a smencils gourmet scented pencil, some insta snow fake snow powder, and an ambient fire video fireplace dvd. awesome stuff! thomas and i had lots of fun playing with the insta snow. you just add water and the stuff puffs up and has the consistency of real snow. it’s awesome! i can’t wait to take it home this weekend and show it off to my cousin keegan…i’ll probably give him the rest of the package just because i know of how much fun he’ll have with it. the video fireplace makes me feel like i’m at home in douglas…no kidding. just hearing the crackle of the fireplace makes me think of home. i’m going to need a fireplace one day when i have a home of my own! the smencils pencil smells just like bubble gum, and it’s made of recycled newspapers! it’s definitely cool. i love all the little gifts vat19.com sent me. thanks, you guys! i’ll be checking out your site for more awesome christmas gifts this holiday season!

christmas greetings

remember when i was talking about victorian halloween postcards? the mail from those days was so pretty. have you ever seen any of those old victorian christmas cards? they’re absolutely gorgeous. card-sending was an art form back then, and nowadays, it’s pretty hard to find a decent christmas card. it seems like it’s become a chore to send christmas greetings, and all christmas cards are wacky, tacky, or too sappy. well, the gallery collection changes that.

the gallery collection is a Corporate Christmas Cards Company that specializes in the publication of high-quality greeting cards. their christmas selection is now available, and they are offering lots of gorgeous christmas cards for every need. recently, these folks have teamed up with soldier’s angels, a public service campaign to send care packages to soldiers overseas.

i’m not tremendously close to anyone stationed overseas, but i do realize the toll it takes on relationships. christine and kris have been spending nonstop time together since his leave began two weeks ago, and he leaves for kuwait again tomorrow. i know she’s going to be devastated to see him leave, and she’ll be even more heartbroken this christmas when he’s not physically here with her. it’s hard on the loved ones and it’s hard on the soldiers. christmas is probably a very lonely time overseas. i can’t even imagine being so far away from my family for so long, especially during the holiday season. soldier’s angels sends care packages to soldiers to let them know that they’re in our thoughts, and the gallery collection has included in these care packages a christmas card to each soldier that says “thanks” along with a beautiful card that they can send home to their loved ones. that’s a really thoughtful suggestion on this company’s behalf!

it’s almost time to send out holiday cards, so i might check into this company for my holiday needs this year. what they’ve done for our soldiers is quite impressive. =)

my poor daddy.

my daddy is 62 years old and he has no intentions on retiring anytime soon. in fact, i doubt he’ll ever retire just because he can’t stand to have nothing to do! everyday, he’s out in the sun, instructing people on building roads. on the weekends, he might take an occasional nap, but not until after he’s mowed the lawn and tended to the yard or helped someone move some furniture or fix up their yard…y’know. he’s always doing something.

well, after 62 years of going, going, going, going, and going more, daddy’s bound to have troubles with his joints, and his lower back is his biggest problem. every now and then, the pain will get so bad, he doesn’t even want to leave the bed. that’s VERY unusual for him since he’s constantly “on,” moving around and getting things done. he’s been to the chiropractor about this, but they just pop him back into place and he’s good to go. his back problems don’t really have a specific cause, i don’t think. he’s just getting older, and he’s put a lot of strain into his back over the years.

a couple months ago, i got some samples of Freeze It Gel in the mail. the first person who came to my mind was my daddy. i knew he’d want to try this stuff to ease the pain whenever his back started acting up again, so after trying a sample myself, i gave him the rest. freeze it’s some really neat stuff…it leaves a cooling sensation over the area on which it’s been spread, but it’s not greasy like most topical pain relievers. i really liked that a lot about freeze it.

daddy’s tried freeze it since then, and he really liked it. he was surprised at how quickly it got to work and how it eased off the pain in his lower back so well. he’s also developing slight arthritis in his fingers, and he said it worked just as well on those joints. freeze it can be used for all sorts of sore, achy muscles, arthritis, neck pain, back pain, and more. another thing that makes freeze it awesome is the fact that you don’t have to take any pills to get pain relief, and the product is natural!

here’s my daddy:

his back seems to be doing a lot better ever since he tried freeze it. give it a try the next time you’ve got achy muscles; perhaps you’ll have results that are as successful!

what lurks in the mist?

i have one paper left to do, but i keep finding all sorts of interesting stuff to read about online so i don’t have to do it…lol. one such thing is the movie the mist, which opens in theaters on november 21st. thomas has been talking about this movie for months because it’s based on The Mist by Stephen King, his favorite king short story. he’s been absolutely excited about this film’s release ever since he found out they were making it, and he’s gotten me quite hooked on it, as well. every time i see the trailer on TV or in theaters, i get super excited. the mist is about this eerie mist that covers an entire town (wait, it gets better.). nobody can see through it, so they can’t “escape” it. the best part? there are creatures lurking inside this strange mist. my kind of horror movie!

i’ll be quite honest with you; i’ve never read a stephen king novel before. i’ve only seen his works produced as films, and my personal favorite is the shining. what a psychological thrill ride! every time i think about danny riding his trike through the hallway and seeing those little bloody twins (”come play with us, danny.” [camera cuts to blood and gore]), i get absolute chills. so creepy! i love it. stephen king is really good at leading his readers (or in my case, viewers) on so they’re genuinely not expecting what happens.

you guys should check out the trailer for this movie. if that’s not enough to give you the creeps, i don’t know what is. this is definitely on my “must-see” list of films for this month!

i think everybody who knows me knows just how much i love new york. i mentioned it in a post a few days ago, and i really think i’m going to go again when i graduate from VSU. that’ll be VERY exciting…i had SO much fun last time, and i can’t wait to go again. i think the highlight from my 2nd trip to NYC was RENT, of course, but i certainly loved the met. i got to see henry VIII’s armor there and some real, ancient flowers from an egyptian tomb (that, to me, was absolutely awesome. they still had their color and everything!). the metropolitan museum of art is fascinating. it really is. there’s just so much to see, though, that once you’ve walked through a fourth of the building, you’re tired, cranky, and ready to go home! haha. i also liked going to the top of the empire state building at night. it was amazing to see; i absolutely loved it.

of course, all this stuff gets pretty pricey if you do it individually. so you’ve got to do what my family did and get a New York CityPass. these are booklets of individual, one-time tickets to different attractions in NYC. the best part? they cost nearly half as much as you’d pay buying the tickets one-by-one. each booklet has one ticket to each of the following: the met, the guggenheim museum (i haven’t been there yet, but i certainly need to go!), the museum of modern art (MoMA), and the american museum of natural history. you also get to take a trip to the empire state building observatory (like i just mentioned) and you also get a tour of the manhattan skyline from the circle line sightseeing cruise (i wonder if it makes a stop to ellis island?), along with a map of NYC, tips on the best times to visit each place, and public transportation information. another great thing about these is that they don’t expire within a few days…you actually have up to three months to use them. these books are ABSOLUTELY worth the price (which isn’t a lot; just $65 for an adult!). you’ll get to visit a lot of great NYC museums for a better price than you’d normally pay. this would be a fantastic present to give to someone who’s going to be visiting NYC soon. it would be an even greater investment if you’re planning on taking a family trip to the big apple sometime soon. give citypass a shot; i’m certain you won’t be disappointed!

mystery shoppers: the real thing?

mystery shoppers aren’t just a scam you see on flashy, annoying, online banners. they’re a real thing…but they’re not so mysterious. according to my retail-working friends, the store is notified in advance of when a worker from a secret shopping service will make an appearance, and these ladies and gentlemen aren’t exactly true to their title as a “secret shopper;” they carry around conspicuous clipboards as they inspect items in the store. is this any way to find out how your business is REALLY doing? i don’t think so!

bestmark, however, seems to be a different story. this company offers much more discreet secret shoppers at stores that take note of specific incidents when a customer comes in contact with a business. they also track attributes that impact customer satisfaction in the long run. pretty impressive stuff! if i owned a business and were interested in hiring a mystery shopper to see just how much customer satisfaction my store could provide, i’d definitely use this service to get quality results.

I think anyone who attends my university knows just how bad the parking situation is. It’s nearly impossible to attend school there and not have some experience with the lousy parking and transportation system. I’ve left an HOUR early for class in hopes I’d find a parking spot, and I was STILL out of luck! VSU is supposedly investing in more parking lots and garages within the next year, but they’re going to cut out about 700 parking spots while they build the decks DURING spring semester. Argh! Maybe the folks at Parking & Transportation should take note of Harvard Square Parking’s way of doing things. The folks at Harvard Square Parking offer not only plenty of parking spots but also complimentary transportation around Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Get this…this free transportation is all aboard their refurbished London taxi. In the words of Borat, “Very nice!” …much nicer, at least, than a smelly, always-late shuttle bus furnished by VSU, if you ask me. ;)

my friend…let’s call her “jane”… just got a victoria’s secret card a few weeks ago with a $500 limit. instead of spending only when she needed to [not that victoria's secret is ever a real NECESSITY, in my opinion], she used that limit to go on a shopping spree, i kid you not! you would’ve thought someone had given her a gift card or something. i don’t know about you all, but i feel guilty when i spend that much cash so quickly, especially by using a credit card! jane can’t always pay her bills on time, and she always claims that she’s broke. i’m sure if she keeps going the way she’s going now, she’s going to wind up with some Bad Credit. this is going to really hurt jane when she applies later on in her adult life for a home loan. hopefully by then, she’ll be more wise with her money, but she’ll have to learn to do so the hard way.

fortunately for her, badcreditoffers.com compiles all sorts of companies that offer much-needed loans, credit repair, and/or credit cards into one place where those with bad credit can see basic statistics of each place– APR, interest rate, etc. once accepted, the person can repair his/her credit by making payments on time. i really hope jane never has to resort to this, but judging from the way she’s going, she’ll more than likely unfortunately have to sometime or another!

the aspect of law school stresses me out enough as it is…but then there’s the subject of loans. i’m scared to death to borrow so much money from a bank, but i know i’ll have to if i want to continue my education. there are lots of online loans that could help me out during the foreseeable tight-money time, but i’m awfully nervous about seeking them out. there are way too many unsecured loans out there for me to be-bop from plan to plan. once i find a loan source, i want to stick with it…i don’t want to gather up several loans from different sources. the thought of being indebted to the bank from here until the age of 40 totally scares me, but i know it’s inevitable. i need to stop thinking so negatively about the whole thing, though…my parents have taken out a fewhomeowner loans throughout the years and they’re financially stable. i guess it’s just the know-how of managing your money that gets you through it, and my daddy certainly has that gift!

iFLOOR offers flooring warranties

Originally published at skankage.com. Please leave any comments there.

people can buy anything online these days, it seems, and more and more folks are turning to the internet to provide basic decorative things for their home, like wallpaper and flooring. the nasty side to this all is that some websites don’t offer warranties for such crucial projects to a home’s value. that’s where iFLOOR steps in. because so many warranty claims have been denied for those who purchased their flooring online, iFLOOR is offering up to $1,000,000 warranty protection for customers. furthermore, they are also reserving the right to seek out legal assistance for their customers. sounds like it’s a rather impressive company to me!

check out this press release regarding the whole issue:

iFLOOR, America’s largest online flooring retailer, today announced a $1,000,000 limited warranty designed to protect its customers from predatory manufacturer policies that exclude warranty coverage from online purchases. The policy, which goes into effect immediately, offers up to one million dollars of coverage in the event that a customer’s warranty claim is denied specifically because they made their purchase online. It is complimentary for every iFLOOR customer, and protects the buyer under the same terms as the original product warranty.iFLOOR, Inc. CEO, Steve Simonson, came up with the program to combat “scare tactics” used by manufacturers of hardwood floors and laminate flooring. “Their idea is to discourage you from buying at a discount!” wrote Simonson in his blog “It’s About Flooring”. “This is not right! You deserve to save money! So we’re going to take care of this problem once and for all.”And it would appear that federal law is on his side. Section 108 of the 1975 Magnuson-Moss Act, states that, “In general, tie-in sales provisions are not allowed. Such a provision would require a purchaser of the warranted product to buy an item or service from a particular company to use with the warranted product in order to be eligible to receive a remedy under the warranty.”

Under iFLOOR’s new warranty, a key provision allows for iFLOOR to “seek justice” on behalf of the customer in the event of legal action. According to Simonson, “I’m putting iFLOOR’s money where my mouth is.”

About iFLOOR, Inc.
Since 1998, iFLOOR.com has been the leading online and retail flooring company, with 36 local retail stores nationwide offering more than 70,000 products, including hardwood floors, laminate flooring, bamboo flooring and cork floors. iFLOOR.com is the largest online flooring retailer according to Internet Retailer Magazine, and was named by Inc. I’ve talked before about getting rich and owning property in New York. I certainly haven’t lost this dream! The first time I visited New York, I remember my father opening a local paper and musing over the prices of NY real estate. He would whistle at the prices and then joke to my mother that they should buy a penthouse. She would return with a laugh and continue sipping her coffee. Me, on the other hand, I want to live in New York someday, at least for a little while. If I have the money, I definitely would like to own property up there. I always say I have to “get rich” before I can go through with this dream because that’s really what it takes…living in New York is NOT cheap! You’ve also got to find a good real estate company to help you find the best investment for you. Prudential Douglas Elliman is a real estate firm that helps folks locate and purchase property in many areas of New York, including Manhattan, Montauk, Long Island, and the Hamptons. They’re also the largest real estate company in New York with 60 offices currently open. These folks look pretty reliable, so I’ll probably have to remember them when the day comes for me to finalize this dream I have of living in New York!

i love black friday!

i’ve blogged about this before, and i’ll blog about it again. i’m sure jade & all my other retail-working friends hate it…but i love black friday. black friday is the day after thanksgiving when many stores open their doors super early to offer amazing sales to help people kick-start their holiday shopping. i think i like it so much because it’s an absolute rush…even when there’s nothing too impressive to buy at walmart, i still like to get up early and go just for the crowds. i’ve seen people fight over stuff before…that’s probably my favorite part. but i digress. black friday 2007 will happen on november 23 this year. since today’s november 1st, the ads of more and more stores will start being leaked online since most of the ads show up in the thanksgiving day newspaper. instead of checking every single website everyday to find the hottest deals, i much prefer to visit a black friday website that consolidates every ad into one website. cool, huh?

well, black-friday.net does just that. because i’m usually in my small hometown for thanksgiving, i’ll be there the day after, as well, so i pay special attention to the walmart ads. some stores’ ads aren’t available just yet on the website, so you can input your e-mail address so they’ll e-mail you once the ad is posted. i really like that idea! i think i might put mine in for best buy, kohl’s, and target so i can be aware of the best deals as soon as they’re available, because as you ALL know, i am a kohl’s freak! haha. one of the most unique things about this website is their online shopping. they offer direct links to each product so you can buy them online for the black friday price (you’ll have to wait until november 23 for the best price, of course!) without standing in line or battling crowds at 5am. i’m sure my mother would love this feature because she always sends me to do her black friday shopping and quite frankly, i’d rather shop for myself then! i’m going to send her to black-friday.net so she can do her own thing there. what a great find!
